Q: What’s your full name, age, and where are you from?
A: Nursultan Andrew Mackinnon, 27, Atyrau, Kazakhstan.
Q: What do you do for a living?
A: I am a full time sound/audio engineer and producer.
Q: When did you know that you wanted to turn your gift into a career ?
A: Last year of junior college (2012) while playing football I was introduced to Native Instruments Machine. After that it was a wrap. I picked up music and quit football.
Q: Who are some of your biggest influences in your industry?
A: James Prince (Rap-A-Lot), Percy Miller (Master P), Pink Floyd (Band), Andre Young (Dr. Dre), Noah “40’ Shebib , and Rick Rubin.
Q: What would you consider your biggest accomplishment thus far in your career?
A: I don’t think I have accomplished anything major throughout my music career as far as placements. However as a Producer/Engineer I have been practicing my craft and gaining more knowledge so that I will be ready at any given situation.
Q: What legacy would you like to leave behind for yourself?
A: Once I’m in a better situation I would like to open up universities and schools around my country (Kazakhstan), then worldwide. This is because there are so many talented individuals where I’m from however they do not have the platform or opportunity to showcase their talent. I want to be able to leave this world with people knowing that I love where I am from and that I am a proud Kazakh who will constantly strive to be the greatest Producer/Engineer. More importantly I want to be remembered as great human being that wanted change.
Q: How has the recent pandemic impacted the way you approach your craft?
A: Use your time wisely as this time will never come again. By that I mean polish your talents, master your craft and learn new things. Don’t be a producer, engineer, chef or race car driver; whatever it is without knowing the history and knowledge behind your profession. Study the greats and improve as that’s the only way to evolve and become better than the previous generation.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
A: In the next 5 years I see myself as one of the most successful Kazakh-Scottish multi genre producer/engineer around the world. I see the GOATS such as Dr. Dre , Noah and Master P and even individuals outside music admiring what I do and wanting to work with me. I also see myself venturing into other things besides music (e.g. Real Estate, Technology and Agriculture). Really I want music to become a hobby and not a job and diving deep into the music industry is not my intentions; just notoriety and respect so when my name is mentioned the room knows what’s up.
